Senator Faisal Vawda, chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Maritime Affairs, has claimed that a country fraud worth a value of RS 50 to 60 billion was completed during the current government’s term of office, with an agreement signed on July 9, 2024, over 500 hectares of land.

The Senate’s Standing Committee on Maritime Affairs convened a meeting, chairman of Senator Vawda, with key officials, including President of Port Qasim and the acting chairman of Karachi Port Trust, also present.

During the meeting, Senator Dinesh raised concerns about the absence of permanent chairmen of Gwadar and Karachi ports and questioned why acting officials ran the operations. In response, Vawda highlighted the seriousness of the case and said, “We have three options: Surrender, admit corruption or fight.”

He also claimed that if the issue of RS 50 billion theft had not been treated quickly, the agreement would not have been canceled within 72 hours. “If everything was correct, why was it canceled in just 72 hours? Together we saved Pakistan’s Rs 60 billion,” Vawda added.

Vawda also accused Port Qasim of issuing misleading disproves through the media of hiding the facts and misleading the public. He emphasized that the land agreement involving 500 hectares was signed under the current government, with payments planned for only 365 hectares. He claimed that only two percent advance was paid for the land worth 60 billion Rs.

The Secretary of Maritime Affairs suggested that the question could have been a mistake, but Senator Dinesh answered quickly and said that a privilege movement should be raised against the secretary to mislead the committee.

Vawda strongly criticized the secretary’s defense and called theft of RS 50 to 60 billion “not a mistake” but a serious question. The extra secretary admitted to being unaware of the case, but revealed that they were part of the board that monitored the agreement. Vawda added, “I will remind the extra secretary of many things.”
