RS192B Supplementary Budget Adopted

Peshawar:

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly on Wednesday approved a supplementary budget of RS192.74 billion for the current financial year (2024-25), which cleared 62 financing requirements covering additional departmental expenses.

The move triggered a setback from opposition parties that staged a fiery protest and a walkout that dechumbled the move as evidence of the provincial government’s deficient planning and defective economy.

Speaker Babar Saleem Swati presided over the session, which quickly became disputed after he claimed special forces to Bulldoze’s opposition -cut movements and quickly track the budget.

Opposition members who branded the exercise a matter of “catastrophic political failure” claimed this marked the 14th additional budget under PTI’s 13-year-old rule. They paralyzed the frequent use of such budgets and argued that when they were not controlled the cost of the balloon year after year and questioned the government’s statement of a surplus.

Dr. Ibadullah, opposition leader, waded into the debate with figures. “Profits don’t fit the bill,” he said, pointing to the staggering provincial debt that rises from RS150 billion to RS800 billion under successive PTI administrations.

He questioned the logic of approving patchwork budgets, as almost a third of the development funds had gone unused and alleged RS200 billion in financial irregularities per year. Audit General conclusions.
