Rs50m earmarked for shrine, mosque renovations

Funds include Rs10 million for renovation of Dargah Shah Chiragh, Rs20 million for Shah Sufair shrine in Sohawa

The Punjab Auqaf Department has allocated over Rs 50 million for the construction and renovation of several shrines and mosques.

The funds include Rs10 million for renovation of Dargah Shah Chiragh, Rs20 million for the shrine of Shah Sufair in Sohawa and Rs10 million for development work at Jamia Masjid Usmania in Okara.

In addition, an amount has been allocated for the construction and renovation of the Langar Khana and Library at the Baba Farid Shrine in Pakpattan under the Annual Development Plan (ADP) 2025-26.

According to officials, the renovation plan for Dargah Shah Chiragh includes removing old lime plaster from the exterior and carrying out fresco painting work inside the shrine at an approved cost of Rs 10 million.

Similarly, at the shrine of Shah Sufair in Sohawa, Jhelum, construction work is underway on boundary walls around the Langar Khana, along with renovation of wash areas and toilets, with an approved cost of Rs 20 million. The project also involves excavation, levelling, dressing and backfilling around the shrine.

In addition, Rs 10 million has been earmarked for development work at Jamia Masjid Usmania in Okara.

Punjab Auqaf Chief Administrator Ehsan Bhutta stated that all projects will be completed soon, providing adequate facilities to the visitors while preserving the religious heritage of the province.
