RTH, RMC at logger heads over free plot

Rawalpindi:

Rawalpindi Teaching Hospital (RTH) has approached the Rawal Pindi Commissioner, Board of Revenue (Bor), Punjab Secretary Health and District Development Committee to construct a surgical tower and 100-bed trauma center on site for the demolished Roz biography in Fawara Chowk, Raja Bazar.

Meanwhile, Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC), which has already built a border wall around the site, has proposed a parking space with multiple floors in the same place.

The Historic Hospital in Fawara Chowk – promotes District Headquarters Hospital and now upgraded to Rawalpindi Teaching Hospital – is next to the place of the old Roz cinema. After the lease expired and a court stay was abolished, the RMC structure tore the structure and closed one channel eight Marla plot with a high border wall. The company then submitted a proposal to the Punjab government on the construction of a parking lot on site.

On the other hand, RTH is currently operating with a very limited emergency facility of only 30 beds and is overloaded with patients. The hospital’s administration has proposed the construction of a surgical tower, helipad and a 100-bed trauma center on site.

According to Dr. Ikramullah Khan Niazi, the medical superintendent of RTH, was originally awarded the hospital in 2006, but the construction could not continue due to a court stay. Now that the legal obstacles have been cleared, the hospital has again submitted to the proposal to the Health Secretary.

The case has also been drawn to the Rawal Pindi Commissioner who has referred it to Bor. The question was raised in a meeting of the District Development Committee, where officials highlighted the urgent need for expansion due to the hospital’s overwhelming patient load.

If it is approved, the project would not only establish a modern trauma center but also include a helipad to the roof of air ambulance services, which significantly improved relief delivery in the region, Niazi added.

But when contacted, Chief Officer for RMC, Imran Ali, says the vacated land is municipal property and the company intends to construct a parking space with several floors there.

The project aims to relieve traffic jams and deliver parking solutions to the surrounding areas including Fawara Chowk, Raja Bazaar, Kashmiri Bazaar, Ganjmandi, Liaquat Road, Iqbal Road and Jinnah Road, he adds.
