Publisher Tencent Games has revealed Rules for engagement: the gray stateAn upcoming tactical extraction shooter in a horror universe.
Developed by Gray State Studio, formerly known as Aurora Studio, comes from the same team as Ring of Elysium. Published back in 2019, Ring of Elysium So short success in the crowded Battle Royale market, but eventually closed in 2023.
Rules for engagement: the gray state Takes many of its basic principles, including focus on tactical struggle and extraction mechanics. It also introduces new PVE elements that make you fight against environmental threats beyond players and a deep class-based progression system with massive skills.
The game is in the titular Gray State, a newly discovered dimension filled with nightmares. You play like a stray, one of the elite soldiers who shrink to pick up an invaluable artifact from the inside.
The setting draws on a wide range of horror scenarios and draws inspiration from a large selection of movies, books and other sources.
It will be free-to-game where the developer promised no pay-to-win income generation. Purchase in the game will only be cosmetic, such as arms skin and combat.
Three classes will be available at the launch with more planned later.
The game comes out in 2026 after Alpha Playtest’s earlier that year and will be a PC exclusive title.
