Ryan Phillippe has responded to the rumors of his role in I know what you did last summer.
On Saturday, July 19, Prime Video’s Instagram page shared a clip of Philippe, 50 in 1997 Teen Horror Classic.
They wrote: “Reese Wherspoon auditioned to I know what you did last summer But changed his mind and withdrew. Instead, she recommended her then boyfriend, Ryan Phillippe for the role of Barry. “
Philippe went to the comments to set the record straight and wrote, “Not sure the story is truuuuu, but it’s very sweet.”
Prime Video’s statement probably came from director Jim Gillespies interview with Digital spy In 2017, when he noted that Reese was offered the role of Julie (who eventually went to Jennifer Love Hewitt).
According to Jim, the Reese rejected the role, but recommended Ryan, her then girlfriend, for the role of Barry.
“We had actually made an offer to Reese Witherspoon first,” he said. “Reese came in and met us, but eventually didn’t want to do it. But she pointed us to Ryan, funny enough. They were together at this point. We asked her who the hottest guy was in her opinion and she said Ryan Phillippe.”
The Morning Exhibition Actress and Ryan began to go out in 1997 and engaged in 1998. The couple continued to star in Cruel intentions in 1999. They tied the knot in June of that year.
Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Philippe greeted two children, Ava, 25, and Son Deacon, 21. They separated themselves in 2006 and completed their divorce in 2007.
