Ryan Preece was thinking about what really matters in life as his # 60 -car was airborne with only five laps to walk in the 67th of Daytona 500 Sunday night.

Preece was in the middle of the package when a vrak at the top of the race affected him in the worst way, with Christopher Bell’s No. 20 car that smashed into him, causing his vehicle to fly through the Florida night.

When the preece’s car touched the track again, it was turned upside down, and still traveled at a high speed before eventually returning to normal and throwing into the wall.

Fortunately, Preece went out of the wreck unharmed, though there was a moment while in the air that he began to think of family, specifically his daughter, Rebecca Marie.

“Yes, I don’t know if it’s the diffuser or what makes these cars like a sheet of plywood when you go out on a windy day,” Preece told Fox Sports in an interview after going off the field.

“But when the car started like that and it got really quiet, all I thought of was my daughter. So I’m lucky to go away.”

Several wrecks on the wreck showed just how scary wreck was, including a glance from No. The 43 car from Erik Jones, who was also involved in spin-outs.

From Jones’ vantage point came Bell’s car, coming out of the right wall, nowhere, and Preece got it all.

The front of the vehicle immediately lifted out into the air, and as Preece said, the windy conditions – two delays came in this race from bad weather – caused the car to lift the track completely.

This is the second time in Preece’s career he has turned on Daytona, so even though he has experienced this before, it is never a good feeling to have to go through it.

Preece also reflected with front strait after the race and added that “something needs to be done” with the cars because they didn’t have to lift the track out as he did.

“The one thing I want to say as a father, as a breed, is that we continue with when it finally gets some-I don’t want it to be me.

“Then something has to be done because cars raising from the ground like that, honestly felt worse than Daytona in ’23.”
