Sabres Great Rob Ray takes puck in the face

Buffalo Sabres Broadcaster Rob Ray had an understandably hot microphone moment during Saturday’s game against the New York Rangers after he took a puck in the face between benches.

The unfortunate incident caught Sabres’ playfully surprised late during the opening period.

Ray was beaten just above the eye of a deflected puck, which got the previous long -time NHL Enforcer To drop some colorful language during the broadcast.

“Ah, f —,” Ray shouted at pain.

Players and a team doctor quickly went over to check Ray who had a visible gash over his left eye and on the bridge on his nose.

Later in the broadcast, Ray said he received a “couple of small stitches” in the eyebrow area, but he ultimately avoided any major damage to his eye.

“It’s not normal,” he joked about “Golf ball” Size lump on his face.

Ray is no stranger to damage – neither between the benches nor on the ice.

He accumulated 3,207 Criminal Mines in his 14 seasons with the Sabres organization and set a franchise post. His time spent in the box also ranks sixth on the NHL career list.

Ray’s fighting style even led the league to introduce a new rule where players who fought without their jerseys got gaming conditions. The former NHL veteran would wear tear-wake jerseys, giving him an advantage by essentially freeing his arms during a fight.

As for his time in the Broadcast Stand, Saturday was not the first time Ray fell victim to a rouge -puck.

In a game of December 2023, Ray was hit again – almost identical – with a puck just between his eyes.

In both cases he returned to action immediately. Ray was introduced to Sabers Hall of Fame last month.
