Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf’s (PTI) Salman Akram Raja has decided to resign the party’s Secretary-General post and says he will meet PTI founder Imran Khan tomorrow and request him to free him on his duties.
“Today there has been an incident that now requires a clear decision from me. My life is an open book. None of my actions are in conflict with any principle. Tomorrow [Tuesday]I will request Imran Khan to leave the position, ”he said in a post on X.
The senior lawyer was appointed PTI General Secretary last year in September after resigning by senior party leader Omar Ayub.
Ayub had withdrawn from the position in June.
When he went to X, Raja emphasized that despite walking away from the party position, he continues to offer his legal services to PTI at no cost.
“During the period of PTI’s ordeal, I entered the political arena along with legal assistance under the guidance of the guidance [Imran Khan]. My goal was to contribute to the struggle for supremacy of the constitution, law and democracy, ”he added.
Sources within PTI have revealed that Raja took a step after disagreement with Aleema Khan about the party’s participation in the upcoming election.
The sources said that Aleema opposed participation in the election and said the decision was completely against Khan’s clear instructions.
However, Raja reportedly conveyed the political committee’s attitude and voting distribution to her. According to sources, 13 members of the committee favored to contest when choosing elections, while 9 were against.
The disagreement allegedly left Raja discouraged, which eventually made his decision to go from the key party role.
