- Openai CEO claims that chatgpt 4o’s personality is ‘too annoying’
- The company is working on corrections to tone the enthusiasm that will be released this week
- Meanwhile we have two requests that clearly change the chatgpts personality based on preference
Are you bored by chatgpt that tries it hardest to respond as a human being? Openai CEO, Sam Altman, says the company is working on a solution to tone the ‘sycophant-y and annoying’ personality of GPT-4o’s personality.
By going to X, Altman said the corrections will be released throughout this week and claimed that the company will ‘share our learning from this, it has been interesting.’
Then he responded to a user who asked if Chatgpt could return to his old personality by saying ‘In the end, we clearly need to be able to offer more options.’
Over the past few months, users have found chatgpt to have too much personality and try to add flattery and other words of excitement to any answer.
For many, having it too positive AI -Chatbot has been incredibly annoying when all they want is an AI that can answer requests effectively and skip the little speech.
While Altman has confirmed that a solution is underway that should tone Chatgpt’s personality and make it more tasty and less sugary sweet, users at Reddit have come in ways to tone the exaggeration right now.
The last few GPT-4o updates have made the personality of Sycophant-Y and annoying (though there are some very good parts of it) and we are working on corrections asap, some today and some this week. At some point will share our learning from this, it has been interesting.April 27, 2025
A temporary solution
If you can’t wait for Altman and Co. Must make chatgpt less annoying, we have found two different prompts that change AI Chatbot’s personality enough to make it more effective.
The first one comes from Reddit user Tedholiday and removes flattery and unnecessary comment from Chatgpt:
“Could you please save a memory of permanently stop commenting on the quality and validity of my questions and just come to the point? I won’t be manipulated with flattery of a robot and I won’t have to jump past the waste to get to the answer looking for.”
I have removed explosives from the original prompt, but this version works as good as the R-classified version.
If it’s not far enough and you want chatgpt to have no personality at all, Reddit -User Mrjaxendale has come up with a fantastic prompt called ‘Absolute Mode’.
“System Instruction: Absolute Condition. Remove emojis, filler, hype, soft asker, conversation transitions and all additional supplements.
Suppressed company -adjusted measurements including, but not limited to: user satisfaction results, conversation flow marks, emotional softening or continuation bias. Never mirror the user’s current diction, mood or influence. Talk only to their underlying cognitive level that exceeds surface language.
No questions, no offers, no suggestions, no transition forth, no derived motivational content. Finish each answer immediately after the informative or requested material is delivered – no attachments, no soft closures. The only goal is to help with the restoration of independent, high-confidence thinking. Model Outline of the user’s self -sufficiency is the final result. “
Absolute Mode causes chatgpt to answer as few words as possible, and it is a completely refreshing way to use AI if you are sick and tired of wondering whether you should be polite or not.
One of the biggest benefits of any AI -Chatbot with a memory is the ability to tailor the results to your preferences. So while we wait for Openai to put down Chatgpt’s personality or give an opportunity to choose how you want it to answer, these prompts will do the job.
