- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Leakage Teases Larger Camera and Display Upgrade
- It borrows the screen and cameras used by Z Fold Special Edition
- While it may not get Special Edition’s 16 GB RAM
New Samsung Foldables are expected to land later in the year – Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 – and leaks have teased what users can look forward to when the devices arrive. Some disappointing news came a few days ago when a source suggested that the devices will not offer an upgrade in the RAM or the storage department compared to current gene models, but now a new leak suggests that fold 7 can find ways to excite users with an improved camera and larger screen.
It is according to Tipster @thegalox_ that says Galaxy Z Fold 7 will take a few signals from Samsung Galaxy Fold Special Edition. The special edition was only available in selected Asian regions (such as Samsung’s home base South Korea) and boasts improved specifications, larger screens and a higher price.
Hopefully, the last point will not be transferred to the new fold 7, but thegalox_ confirms that 7 borrows the 200MP main camera – finally the Galaxy Ultra line – and the larger screens. In addition, 7 will reportedly boast a larger steam chamber (maybe steal S25’s Line’s design), a faster chipset (probably the S25 line Snapdragon 8 -Elite, which older leaks also suggested) and improved speakers.
Obviously, all leaks must be taken with a pinch of salt, and although the Galaxy Z Fold 7 borrows some of the Special Edition’s features leaks have already suggested that it will not be an exact copy – for example, the 7 is said to have 12 GB Of RAM, rather than Special’s 16 – although a few downgrades could ensure that we will not see a fold 7 price increase.
Foldable is approaching their final form
I have used the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 as my most important smartphone in the last few months, and since I often discuss on the Techradar podcast, I can’t imagine going back to a standard hand set. Although there are a few frustrating quirks that make the phone hard to recommend when you consider it Samsung’s most expensive, widely available, consumer smartphone.
The first is the camera. For many people, the snappers are the main reason for choosing one phone over another, so it can be an instant deal breaker when you discover the fold 6 – despite costing approx. 1.5 times more – can boast of a worse camera than a Galaxy Ultra. Yes, these costs go to the extra folded display, but still it is a strange feeling to buy a phone that comes with any downgrades compared to a significantly cheaper.
Another is the screen ratio. The outer screen is slightly thinner than a standard phone that can cause some irritations with apps to be cut off on the sides or the screen feels a little cramped for videos. It’s not a massive downgrade, but again a device that starts at $ 1,899 / £ 1,799 / AU $ 2,749 doesn’t feel like it should come with any downgrades-ice when other foldable like Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold gives a full size Display (which also leads to a larger inner screen) and is a similar starting price at $ 1,799 / £ 1,799 / AU $ 2,699.
If Z Fold 7 boasts Special Edition’s screen, it should feel less cramped and will only make it an even more useful tablet alternative when unfolding.
Hopefully the phone adopts these camera and shows upgrades then, but we do not know for sure until Samsung announces an official message. We also have to wait and see if it will do something about the phone’s IP48 dust and water resistance assessment. I don’t hold my breath, but it may soon be the last big foldable frustration Samsung needs to solve.
