- Samsung has confirmed that Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be thinner, lighter and more durable than the previous model
- The company seems to also say that the same will be the case with Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7
- It is not surprising that these phones are also said to be the company’s most advanced foldable
We expect Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 to both be revealed in July, but before it teases Samsung already these devices and a new blog post gives us an idea of what to expect from their design.
A post on Samsung Newsroom specifically says that “the latest Galaxy Z series is the thinnest, lightest and most advanced foldable yet.”
So in other words, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be thinner and lighter than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, and although the article seems to be focused on the fold, says the ‘Galaxy Z’ rather than ‘Galaxy Z Fold’, which suggests that Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 is likely to be thinner and lighter than Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6.
Samsung does not become specific about how slim and light, but leaks have hinted, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 could only be 3.9 mm thick when unfolded and either 8.2 mm or 8.9 mm thick when folded. It is down from 5.6 mm and 12.1 mm for Z Fold 6 when unfolded and folded respectively. Z Fold 6 is also 239 g, so the Galaxy Z Fold 7 should be lighter than that.
Before we had not heard any reports of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7, which is slimmer, but for reference, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 6.9 mm thick when unfolded and 14.9 mm when folded and it weighs 187 g.
Built to last
In addition to being slimmer and lighter than their predecessors, Samsung’s upcoming foldable will also be more advanced and more durable according to this post.
It would be surprising if they were not more advanced, but to hear that they are set to be more durable, is reassuring as foldable phones themselves are quite fragile.
Again, Samsung does not become specific about how shelf life will be improved, but leaks have suggested that both the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 could have a more durable hinge mechanism, while the former could also have better water resistance and a hard titanium back plate.
We had to find out exactly what upgrades Samsung have planned soon as leaks suggest that both phones could land on July 10.
