- A new Samsung -User Survey is shown
- It suggests charging Magsafe style for future Galaxy phones
- Devices that only charged wirelessly are also mentioned
The best Android phones, of course, support all wireless charging, but they do not yet have Magsafe-style magnetic ‘snap’ functionality for chargers and accessories you get with iPhones and that is something that Samsung could plan to change.
An official Samsung study that was sent to users and discovered by Sammyguru asks some interesting questions: How useful would Magsafe-style charge be for you, and would you mind extra telephone thickness if it meant that magnets could be mounted inside? (If you didn’t get the study, you can say by telling us what you think in the comments below this article.)
There is also a mention that “only wireless charging” is supported – which suggests that Samsung is ultimately considering removing with the cable charge on its Galaxy phones, at least for some of the models in its range.
None of this, of course, evidence or guarantees future features – it’s just a user survey – but it’s an exciting indication of what Samsung leaders are considering when it comes to charging options on handsets like Galaxy S25.
Coming soon
The top Android phones on the market are currently using QI2 wireless charging, which actually makes the best iPhones. While QI2 actually supports magnetic snapping, Android manufacturers have not yet implemented that part of the standard.
There is a trade -off to be done, as indicated by Samsung’s study. Mounting magnets in a phone to support Magsafe Functions can add thickness and weight to a device as well as increase the cost-which may be the reason why Apple did not add Magsafe to iPhone 16E.
Samsung may not be the only Android phone manufacturer that flicks the switch on this extra Qi2 feature that Apple has done. Google is rumored to introduce its own version of Magsafe to the Pixel 10 series, complete with some ‘pixel snap’ accessories.
As for Samsung, we have not seen any wireless or wired charging changes in the recently revealed Galaxy Z Fold 7 or Galaxy Z Flip 7 – so if it decides to launch its own ingestion of Magsafe, it may only appear in the Samsung Galaxy S26 next year.
