- There have been rumors of a Galaxy AI subscription
- Samsung has just confirmed that many features remain free
- But it is not clear how Galaxy Ai can develop in the future
Samsung has certainly not been shy to fill AI features in its phones and other devices in recent years, and there has been some uncertainty as to whether these features can ultimately cost money – but we now have a little more clarity.
In a speech with the Android police at this week’s Galaxy -Packed event, a Samsung representative said Galaxy AI features that are “on your phone by default” will always be available for free.
It includes Live Translate, Note Assist, Zoom Nightography, Writing Assistant, Drawing Assistant, Now Map and Sound Gum. There is a full list here about everything you get, a lot when you buy a new Samsung phone or tablet.
What is not immediately clear is which AI features may not be covered-in the moment there are no Galaxy AI addances that do not come bundled with devices, although we may see some introduced in the future.
The Gemini model
Of course, there is a Freemium model for the Gemini AI assistant, which is now displayed on most Android devices, including Samsung phones and tablets. Payment for Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra will get you more features and access to better AI models.
Google AI Pro starts at $ 19.99 / £ 18.99 / AU $ 32.99 and includes extras like 2TB Google Cloud Storage, but you often get a few months free. If you buy one of the Google Pixel 9 phones, you will have a whole year of use before you have to start paying.
The newly announced Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 come with six months for free, and clearly Google hopes that when the free period is up, you will not be able to live without all the AI goodness you get with a subscription.
Samsung has dropped hints of introducing a Samsung Health subscription package and giving you extra features for a monthly fee so it is possible that some additional AI tools may be included in it -even if we have to wait and see.
