Folding phones can promise a pocket-sized tablet experience, but there is an unignorable difference between a foldingly large inner screen and a proper slate: the crisis. It’s a distraction, but Samsung display may have finally fixed it with a design we could see adopted by the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Down to the middle of a collapsible phone’s inner screen – along the hinge where it folds – is a curl that you can see and feel on all existing consumer models. Now on the MWC 2025 Samsung Display (the arm, which works on TV and telephone screen panels, and is a different device than Samsung Electronics that actually make TVs, phones and other gadgets) have shown a gravelly foldable.
Some designs have taken steps in the right direction before. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 has a significantly less noticeable curl than Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and in some lights you can’t see it at all, and others who have followed – like Oppo Find N5 – made the crisis even less distracting. But no phone eliminated the crisis so far.
Pictures of Samsung Display’s new folding screen (via Android Central) show no visible fold from several viewing angles, highlighting the improvements by the clearly curly Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 on show next to the new tech at Samsung’s stand.
This design generates a lot of excitement along foldable fans – especially in the light of a few extra details that I will discuss below – but it is worth noting that although Samsung display and electronics may be close to partners, they are different, and although the cruel view is ready to see the light of day, it may not have been ready when Z Fold 7 (which is due to the country once in July).
So there is a chance that this new screen will be held back until next year’s Galaxy Z Fold 8- and potentially even longer based on production challenges we don’t know about or the screen costs. We do not know until the Z Fold 7 launch later in the year, but in addition to the lack of curls, there are a few other design information which means I have got all my fingers crossed to this screen to debut in Samsung’s foldable 2025.
More than a creepy screen
The first is a selfie camera change to the inner screen. Currently, the Galaxy Z Fold line uses one under Display -snapper, but the new technology shows us a classic hollow punch -Design. The Under-Display camera can be better mixed when an image is full screen, but it is never entirely invisible and suffers from a severe high quality drop compared to typical selfie cams.
Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a hollow stance, and frankly I prefer this design a lot, so I’m excited to see a Galaxy Z Fold 7 (or 8) with a hole stance.
The second change is that the creepy phone seems to be a larger screen than Z Fold 6 – with two halves that look more like a standard phone form. A larger inner screen is never a bad thing, but that means we also get a bigger outer screen. The outer screen of Z Fold 6 feels cramped, and its strange image conditions can cause problems with some apps, unlike the Google Pixel 9 Pro fold and others offering a more standard -shaped outer screen.
This new Creaseless Design seems to bring the next Samsung devices in line with its rivals in size.
It is worth noting that Hans could just be the style that the Samsung display has been demonstrated, and Samsung Electronics could make his Creaseless folding screen closer to match the existing shape and design of its existing foldable, but I hope this signals a large shaker for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, 8 or any Samsung Foldable Foldable Foldable Foldable – Upgrade on all fronts.
