- Samsung is expected to reveal Galaxy Z Fold 7 at a launch event in July
- A new leak claims that the company also has a surprising sound product
- It is reportedly a set of headphones for bones with bones
A new report claims the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 launch will take place in July, accompanied by the unveiling of a surprising new sound product: bone-conduction headphones.
The news comes from the famous (and usually reliable) Leaker Ice Universe on the Chinese social networking site Weibo, who says “Sources revealed that Samsung Electronics’ MX Division will release bone headphones at Samsung Fold 7 Launch Event in July.”
It sounds like Samsung is coming after the best bone conduction headphones on the market, offering a new sound solution that is definitely popular with runners and cyclists who love the bright, discreet design of bone conduction headphones, and the extra security they bring by allowing you to keep you by keeping you by your surroundings.
The leak, first stained by Android Authority, claims that the headphones are the code name for the “Able” project and wants an “open wireless stereo (OWS) that transmits sound from all over the ear instead of connecting earphones in the ear.”
Samsung launches … something
As exciting as this leak is for runners, cyclists and others, the other part of the leak mugs the water somewhat. OWS headphones generally refer to headphones that pump sounds into your ear via overhead line, while headphones for bones use vibrations to transmit the sound through your skull.
However, the result is the same: You get good sound quality while your ear canal remains free and open to listen to dangers while you are out and around, one of the main reasons why they are so popular with outdoor athletes.
There may be a language barrier here or some confusion about the technology. Or maybe Samsung has cooked up some exciting headphones that use a combination of bone and overhead line.
Either way, if the ICE universe is correct, these headphones will be launched in July with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and would separate from the existing Galaxy Buds lineup that you can find in our Round-Up the best earplugs.
Whether Samsung’s first attempt will be enough to beat them like Shokz from their perch when it comes to exercising headphones is yet to see, but we’re happy to find out.
