- Samsung Galaxy S22 units have received a UI 7 prior to plan
- This suggests that Samsung’s software -ruling goes more smooth
- We begin to learn what features these older devices will receive
Samsung’s rollout of a UI 7 has been less than ideal to put it mildly, but things finally seem to be back on the field as Samsung -Smartphones appear to receive their features ahead of the plan.
Its April -ruling to older Samsung devices (outside Betas) already felt late -especially considering Google I/O’s Android 16 -Exhibition window (a UI 7 is based on Android 15) is expected for only a few weeks on May 20 and 21 -and it was composed only by the discovery of a serious mistake that caused additional delay to the Samsung release.
Since then, a solution has been found and the software update continued, and even better it is reported (via Sammyguru) that devices as old as Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 start receiving an UI 7 in South Korea.
This is noteworthy because Samsung said these older Korean phones would not see the update until a while in May, which means we are not only back on the field but in front of the plan.
We may still have to wait a little longer for the same phones to get a UI 7 in other markets, but this is a clear sign that we (fortunately) didn’t have to wait too much longer to get the Android 15-based update.
But what will a UI 7 bring to these older, non-25 devices?
What will a UI 7 look out on older phones?
With a UI 7 that is now displayed on more non-Samsung Galaxy S25 devices, it is much clearer which features these devices get and what features they miss.
Galaxy AI features such as Now Brief are and Audio Eraser, expected, is absent, but older phones seem to get a toned version of Now Bar (Samsung’s version of iPhone Dynamic Island), but from what has been shown so far it looks like most of a glorified media checker on older phones.
They receive a UI 7’s different cosmetic changes, such as improved app screen adaptation, upgraded icons, such as the phone’s battery and new game amplifier, so you can customize your experience to different titles.
We also expect to see a few useful productivity, security and camera tools on the older phones, based on this full wear and tear of each UI 7 feature from Samsung itself.
As multiple devices receive the update, we should get a clearer picture of what a UI 7 features will be available universal, and with Samsung apparently getting ahead of its roll -out plan, it should not take much longer to access the upgraded tools we get.
