Sana selected senator from Punjab Seat

Lahore:

PML-N candidate Rana Sanaullah was elected senator from Punjab in an election Tuesday and secured 250 votes.

According to official results, a total of 251 ballots were taken from the ballot, of which 250 were declared valid while rejected.

In response to Sanaullah’s victory, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the senior PML-N leader and expanded his best wishes and expressed confidence that the newly elected senator would play an active role in effective legislation in the upper house.

“Senators have an important role in strengthening the federation and maintaining democratic values,” the prime minister said in a statement, adding that the Senate election reflected the continuity of the democratic process.

Competition was largely one -sided after PTI Boikotted the election process, which made it clear that any member participating in the vote would tread party politics.

Nevertheless, the opposition marked Salma Ijaz, wife of Ejaz Chaudhry. The seat had fallen vacant after the disqualification of PTI leader Ejaz Chaudhry, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison by an anti-terrorism court in cases linked to May 9.
