National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) defends Savy King underwent heart surgery after her scary collapse during a match for Angel City on Friday night, the team said.
King was rushed to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after she suffered a medical problem while playing against Utah Royals. Doctors discovered an abnormality in her heart and she underwent operation on Tuesday.

“On behalf of our entire family with Savy, we have been so moved by love and support from Angel City players, staff, fans and communities as well as football fans across the country,” King’s family said in a statement. “We are blessed with sharing Savy is recovering well and we look forward to having her home with us soon.”
Angel City said King was resting and that her “forecast is excellent.”
The incident took place in the 74th minute of the match. Medical staff participated in King for about 10 minutes before being stretched out of the field and into a wagon.
NWSL said it would undergo policies to see if changes should be made when dealing with medical emergencies.

The rules stated that the league “recognizes that emergencies may arise that make the start or progression of a game that cannot be advised or dangerous to participants and spectators. Certain event categories automatically trigger the league office for an evaluation of whether delay or postponement is needed.”
Officials set 12 minutes of stopping time on the clock and played through the end of the match. Angel City won 2-0.
Bay FC chose King with No. 2 selection of North Carolina in 2024 NWSL Draft. She performed in 18 games for the club before she was traded for Angel City during the peak season.
