SC directs 13 petitions involving Imran, Bushra Bibi for Monday hearing

Two-judge bench to hear petitions at 9.00 as notices issued to all parties, attorneys

ISLAMABAD:

The Supreme Court on Saturday fixed 13 different petitions relating to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, for hearing on February 9.

According to the supplementary docket list issued, a two-judge bench comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi and Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan will hear the petitions at 9 on Monday.

Among the petitions set for hearing are the Punjab government’s appeal against the grant of bail to the PTI founder and its appeal against the bail of Bushra Bibi.

The hearing of the appeal against the Election Commission of Pakistan’s criminal complaint against Imran has also been fixed.

Imran’s appeal of the case registered against him under the Official Secrets Act and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) case against the former prime minister in relation to the Al-Qadir Trust were also set for hearing.

The court will also hear the appeal against the acquittal of PTI founder and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the cipher case, as well as the government’s appeal against the former prime minister’s bail in the Lahore cases on May 9.

In the defamation case, Imran’s appeal against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also been fixed for hearing.

The Registrar’s Office issued notices to all relevant parties and their attorneys regarding the upcoming hearings.

Imran has been imprisoned since August 2023 and is currently serving a sentence in Adiala prison in a £190m corruption case. In addition, he faces pending legal proceedings under the Anti-Terrorism Act for the protests on 9 May 2023. The party has in recent days expressed concern over Imran’s health and demanded treatment by its own medical team.
