Islamabad:
A delegation from the IMF’s diagnostic assessment team for management and corruption met with representatives of SCBA on Friday to discuss deficiencies in the justice system and the effort to limit corruption in government institutions.
SCBAP president Mian Muhammad Rauf Atta led the association’s delegation in the discussions. The IMF team is in Pakistan as part of the ongoing review of the legal framework under the expanded $ 7 billion (EFF) funding facility. The meeting lasted for over an hour and took place in a heartfelt and constructive atmosphere.
Pakistan wore Council (PBC) Member Hasan Raza Pasha together with SCBA additional secretary Muhammad Aurangzeb Khan and Balochistan High Court Bar Association President Mir Ataullah Lango was also present during the discussions.
According to a statement from SCBA, the primary focus on the meeting was to limit corruption to create an investment -friendly environment in Pakistan. The SCBA president highlighted deficiencies in the judicial system, including case lag at lower and district courts and the judges.
The discussion also covered inactive government departments and the potential of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms (ADR) to reduce the burden on the courts and improve public access to justice.
The meeting discussed additional strategies for combating corruption, improving governance and implementation of legal reforms. The SCBA president emphasized the need for strict measures against economic crimes to strengthen Pakistan’s economy.
In terms of concern about legal responsibility under, Mian Rauf Ata emphasized that the justice system already has a mechanism for reward and punishment. He elaborated that Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) relates to complaints about higher court judges, while relevant high courts oversee district judges.
