An advisory meeting held under the auspices of the Supreme Court Lawyers’ Association (SCBA) required Monday the cancellation of the recent changes made in the country’s Cyber ​​Crime Act – the prevention of the Electronic Crime Act (PECA), 2016.

The meeting with the title “Media Under Threat: Challenges, such as Media Staff after PECA (amendment), 2025” was organized at the SCBA headquarters.

President of SCBA President Rauf Atta participated in the session of members of the bar as well as senior journalists and media staff. The meeting later adopted unanimous decisions that emphasized freedom of speech and condemned the recent changes to PECA.

“This consultative meeting condemns and rejects PECA (amendment), 2025, which is defective legislation, considering that it is a violation of Article 19 of the Constitution that guarantees the right to freedom of expression and expression.

“This consultative meeting claims that PECA (amendment) Act, 2025, violates the rights of media staff as protected under Article 19 of the ICCPR, adopted by the United Nations and which Pakistan is signing,” said a statement issued after meeting.
