Scott Sauerbeck, former pitcher for pirates, dead of 53

Scott Sauerbeck, a former MLB jug that played for four Big League teams, died Wednesday in Florida. He was 53.

Pittsburgh Baseball now reported that Sauerbeck was suffering a heart attack. He debuted in the Major League with Pittsburgh Pirates in 1999.

“The Pirates family makes sure Scott Sauerbeck is going,” the team wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Scott played for BUCS from 1999-2003 and shares Club Record for most games beaten by an LHP in a season.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this time.”

The 2002 season was perhaps Sauerbeck’s most memorable when his 78 appearances set the Pirates -franchise post for most games beaten in a single season. He remains the record holder.

Sauerbeck landed with Boston Red Sox via a trade during the 2003 season, later signed with Cleveland. He did not appear in any game in 2004 due to an injury.

A stint of athletics in 2006 marked his last race in the main subjects. Sauerbeck landed a minor league contract with Cincinnati Red’s organization in 2008.

Sauerbeck has a 3.82 career era and completed with a 20-17 record.
