- Seagate Ultra Compact SSD has a striking resemblance to a thumbs drive
- Pricing can be an adhesive point for users, and performance leaves much to wish
- The slow passing of flash drive marching
Seagate’s new portable SSD is small but mighty and can mark another stitch in the coffin for flash drive.
The company’s new Ultra-Compact SSD, available in both a 1TB and 2TB format, boasts a small, slender design that looks more like a thumb or top-of-the-range flash drive than a portable SSD.
Complete with a USB-C port includes SSD a single piece of aluminum shell and measurements in 2.7 x 0.7 x 0.34 inches. In particular, Seagate had sustainability in mind during development, with the drive composed for at least 35% recycled materials. From a shelf life perspective, it can also take a weak Christmas that is assessed for drops up to three meters, while it contains IP54 dust and water resistance capabilities – so how does it match other industry colleagues?

As mentioned, the drive comes in both 1 TB and 2TB settings. Both of these offer sequential reading and writing speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps.
PCMARK 10 Track -Based Test by Toms Hardware However, showed that it was not entirely up to the bottom with other available options on the market. In the case of transfer speeds “do not” fail to impress ” – especially at reading speeds.
Its writing speed of 512 Mbps ranked it in fourth place behind Silicon Power DS72 (1TB), silicon power MS70 (1TB) and PNY Pro Elite 3 (1TB). Toms Hardware Further noted that with a mixed filling speed of 570 Mbps, this still remains a quite impressive performance for such a compact drive.
However, a particular area that users may think is appealing is the backup options. SSD provides with Seagate Rescue Data Recovery Service that covers users for up to three years.
All in all, SSD is an impressive bit set for your daily user. Capacities may be missing in some areas, but its compact design is likely to be a draw.
However, there is an important detail that can postpone customers: the pricing. The 1TB setting comes at £ 90.99, making it an intermediate option compared to other available drives. The award -shopping for the 2TB version – Price for $ 179.99 – can be shoveling.
