At least seven terrorists were killed during two separate intelligence -based operations (IBOs) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the military’s media wing said on Sunday.
A statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said: “At night [of] February 8-9, 2025, security forces completed IBO in the general area of Maddi, Dera Ismail Khan District about the reported presence of Khwarij. “
During the performance of the operation, ISPR said, engaged the security forces the terrorist’s location and resulted in the result of three terrorists being killed while two others were caused by injuries.
Meanwhile, another operation was performed in the general area of MIR Ali, North Waziristan District. “In the subsequent fire exchange, four Khwarij [terrorists] was effectively neutralized by the security forces, while three Khwarij was injured, ”it added.
Sanitization operations were launched to eliminate all other terrorists, added the military’s media wing.
“Security forces in Pakistan are determined to wipe out the threat of terror from the country and such victims of our brave soldiers further strengthen our determination,” it concluded.
The operations are part of a sustained terrorist fighting as the country witnessed an increase in violent attacks since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021, especially in the bordering provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
The country witnessed a sharp increase in terrorist attacks in January 2025, which increased by 42% compared to the previous month, according to data released by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), a think tank.
The data revealed that at least 74 militant attacks were registered nationwide, resulting in 91 deaths, including 35 security personnel, 20 civilians and 36 militants. Another 117 individuals sustained injuries, including 53 staff at security forces, 54 civilians and 10 militants.
KP remained the worst affected province, followed by Balochistan. In KP’s resident districts, militants performed 27 attacks, resulting in 19 fatalities, including 11 security staff, six civilians and two militants.
The tribal districts in KP (formerly FATA) witnessed 19 attacks, led to 46 deaths, including 13 security staff, eight civilians and 25 militants.
Balochistan also experienced an increase in militant activity with at least 24 attacks demanding 26 lives, including 11 security personnel, six civilians and nine militants.
In Punjab, two militant attacks were reported, leaving a security manager wounded. On the last day of January, militants launched a major attack on a policy check in DG Khan’s Jhangi area, but security forces rejected the attack without injuries. Sindh and the federal capital, Islamabad, each witnessed an attack, although none of them resulted in deaths.
The month also experienced two suicide bombs, both in Balochistan. The forbidden Tehreek-E-Taliban Pakistan assumed responsibility for one, while the described Balochistan Liberation Army took credit for the other.
