How does the NRL Finals series work?
Week 1: Qualification and Elimination Final
The top eight teams from the ladder at the end of the regular season are divided into two groups of four.
In the top four, 1st place hosts 4th place and 2nd hosts 3. In the qualifying final. The winners go directly to Week 3’s preliminary final, while the losers go to Week 2’s semi -final.
At the bottom four is 5th host 8th, while 6. hosts 7th in the elimination final. The winners go to Week 2’s semi -finals and the losers are out.
Week 2: Semi -final
The loser of the first qualifying last host the winner of the first elimination final in the semi -finals. In semi -final two, it is the loser of the second qualification final at home against hosting the winners of the second elimination final. Losers of these matches go home.
Week 3: Preliminary finals
The winner of the first qualification final (from week 1) hosts the winner of the second semi -final. The winner of the second qualification final (also from week 1) hosts the winner of the first semi -final.
Week 4: Grand Final
The winners of the respective preliminary final will meet in NRL Grand Final on Sunday, October 5 at Accor Stadium, Sydney.
