Selena Gomez says that the vulnerability that comes with talking about mental health is not for heart weakness.
The singer-actress, 32, opened for why she chooses to advocate for mental health despite the “scary” of a recent interview with Billboard EspaƱol.
“At the end of the day, I mean it means something to be a vocals about questions that matter to you, whether you are famous or not,” Gomez said ahead of 2025 Billboard Latin Women in Music event, which is held on May 1 – where she is to be honored as Woman of the Year.
Still, “It’s not too weakness in the heart because you put yourself out there and trust me, there will be a lot of opinions coming to you to even have the nerve to say something at all,” she said.
The Grammy winner then remembered the first time she decided to talk about her mental health.
“It was scary to be so vulnerable and I never wanted anyone to think I’m a victim,” she told the publication.
Gomez continued, “I thought [that] By sharing my own story, I could help others and I will take all the negative opinions that come with it because I see the bigger picture of how the conversations have changed around mental health. “
Last May, Gomez also threw his third annual summit for beauty for beauty in the rare beauty. She also raised money to young mental health organizations as part of her first annual Signe Impact Fund advantage in October 2023.
