Islamabad:
The Senate Standing Committee for Planning instructed the authorities concerned to start the construction of the Hyderabad-Sukkur motorway in the current financial year, noting that building major roads was the federal government’s responsibility.
The committee, who met here with its chairman Quratul Ain Marri in the President, expressed his dissatisfaction with the failure to plan the flagship ‘Uraan Pakistan’ program, as the ministry’s officials could not answer questions from the members.
During the meeting, officials on the planning of the participants informed the Uraan Pakistan program. They said the country’s exports would rise to $ 40 billion in the current financial year, while the government is targeting to increase them to $ 60 billion in the next five years.
Committee member Shahadat Awan raised the question of water problem in the country and asked the ministry about any plan to mitigate this question. He also asked if the provinces had been trusted in the question of the construction of six new channels from the Indus River.
However, the Ministry’s officials could not satisfy the Committee on Uraan Pakistan. The President observed that the Uraan Pakistan program or its “Vision is good, but what will the implementation procedure be?”
Another committee member, Zeeshan Khanzada, said the ministry did not have the details of the implementation of the program. He complained that the relevant authorities, including the Minister of Planning, were also not available at the meeting to provide answers.
At the beginning of the meeting, the chairman expressed her dissatisfaction with the absence of the minister. Marri told the committee that the meeting was delayed until February 19 at the request of the minister’s office, yet Hans did not attend.
