ISLAMABAD:
The Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works on Wednesday emphasized the need for immediate payment of outstanding salaries to the ten employees of the Pakistan Public Works Department (Pak PWD) Maintenance Staff Establishment and their proper adjustment.
The panel met under the chairmanship of Senator Nasir Mehmood at the Parliament Chambers in Islamabad.
The committee was presented with the compliance report on the directions issued in its earlier meetings held in Quetta on November 21 and Lahore on December 18.
The body discussed in detail the issue of non-payment of salaries to ten employees of the Pakistan Public Works Department (Pak PWD) Maintenance Staff Establishment, whose salaries have been outstanding since July 1, 2025.
The committee emphasized the need for immediate payment of outstanding salaries and adjustment of these employees from the same date as other Pak PWD employees in Balochistan were adjusted in various departments.
The body was informed that salaries are being paid without interruption to employees aligned in various organizations, including 1,493 employees of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), 970 employees of the Estate Office, 95 employees of the Ministry of Defence, 1 employee of the Federal Shariat Court, 60 employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 116 employees of the Federal Accountability Bureau (BNA), 90 employees of the Federal Accountability Bureau (BNA), 905 employees. Controller General of Accounts (CGA) A total of around 2,860 employees receive salary without interruption.
However, around 173 employees are approaching the Finance Department for budget allocation for the current financial year, while the verification process of 83 IB employees is underway.
The chairman instructed the authorities concerned to confirm whether all the employees informed are actually being paid wages, and to present a clear and verified position to the committee.
The panel was further apprised of the issue of 15 lower grade maintenance staff employees of the Central Civil Department, Pak PWD, who were transferred to AGPR and T Office, Lahore, but were neither adjusted nor paid salary for the last six months.
The committee expressed serious concern over the matter and stressed a speedy resolution.
The Ministry of Housing and Works briefed the committee about the current status of intake/induction of Pak PWD employees and payment of their salary, pensions, gratuity and other dues.
The body also reviewed the status of acquisition, development and utilization of Constantia Estate, Murree. It was informed that the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue), Murree has notified submission of a formal request addressed to the Deputy Commissioner for mutation of land.
The committee chairman emphasized the need for timely decisions, transparency and protection of employees’ rights and directed the concerned ministries and departments to submit progress reports to the committee as early as possible.
