Islamabad:
Senate selection for 11 seats-inclusive seven general seats, two reserved for women and two for technocrats/disadvantages-from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa is scheduled for July 21 in the provincial assembly building.
The ECP also announced the schedule for Senate’s election due to the departure of Professor Sajid Mir and others vacated by Sania Nishtar with the election held on July 21 and July 31.
A spokesman for the Election Commission declared on Friday that the Commission had postponed the election on April 2, 2024 due to an incomplete election college – as a result of the speaker’s lack of administration of ED to members elected in reserved seats in the provincial assembly.
In addition, the Election Commission has announced the schedule of filling out two vacant reserved women’s seats in Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the National Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These seats were reinstated after the Supreme Court’s judgment on reserved representation.
According to the official schedule, the recurring officer issues the public communication on July 8, 2025.
Nomination papers can be submitted on July 9 and 10th.
Examination of the nomination papers will be conducted on July 14, and the final list of candidates will be published on July 24, 2025.
PML-N’s priority list has been used up and they must present a new priority list to the recurring officer by July 10, according to a press release.
On July 2, the Election Commission issued notifications of members elected to reserved seats in the national and provincial assemblies.
Letters have also been sent to the respective speakers and invite them to hold ED ceremonies so that members can formally take on office and participate in the upcoming Senate choice for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.
