Senators are looking for weapons licenses

Islamabad:

Legislators in the House of House demanded on Tuesday for themselves, which prompted Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to announce that a prohibited BOR license will be issued to each MP.

The meeting of the Senate’s Standing Committee for Interior Committee, chairman of Senator Faisal Saleem, began with prayers for the victims of the Swat tragedy.

Legislators raised several questions including weapons licenses, illegal housing communities in Islamabad, Water shortage and security schemes for Muharram.

Senator Palwasha Khan raised the question of stopped weapons licensing to parliamentarians.

In response, Naqvi announced that each MP will be issued a license and added that quota distributions would be increased for areas facing worsening legal and order situations.

He also ordered a refund for people who paid fees for licenses during the previous period but never received them.

During the session, Director -General (DG) came for immigration and passport Mustafa Jamal Qazi under heavy criticism from committee members.

Senator Haji Hidayatullah protested against DG’s alleged unprofessional behavior and claimed Qazi ignores his calls and refuses to act on them while meeting others to the same requests.

“He even said about my leader Aimal Wali Khan,” is he bigger than the state? “, Which is an unacceptable insult,” said Hidayatullah.

Interior Minister Naqvi instructed the domestic secretary to investigate the matter.

The committee was also informed of proposed changes to Pakistan Citizenship Bill 2025.

DG Qazi explained that overseas Pakistanis who previously had to waive Pakistani citizenship to acquire foreign nationality would now be entitled to regain it, especially those from countries that Pakistan has bilateral agreements.

He argued that this step would help attract investment, philanthropy and expertise back to Pakistan.

However, Senator Palwasha questioned the practical benefits and caused Qazi to answer: “These individuals are assets. They earn abroad, invest here and contribute to development and charity in Pakistan.”
