A bomb committee near the Office of A Peace (AMAN) committee in the WANA area of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provincial South Waziristan district, has killed at least seven people and left 29 other wounded, reported Express News.
Deputy Commissioner Nasir Khan confirmed that the explosion happened close to the committee’s premises, resulting in several injuries.
The wounded were moved to District Headquarters Hospital in WANA for treatment. Police officials reported that the Peace Committee’s office was completely destroyed in the explosion.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, but no group has so far assumed responsibility for the attack.
The explosion comes on the basis of increasing militant activity in Pakistan. According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), January 2025 witnessed a 42% increase in terrorist incidents compared to the previous month.
PICSS registered 74 militant attacks nationwide over the month, causing 91 deaths – including 35 security staff, 20 civilians and 36 militants – and wounded 117 others.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa remained the most affected region with 27 attacks in its wounded districts and 19 attacks in the tribal areas (formerly FATA), resulting in significant losses.
Balochistan also experienced increased militant activity with 24 registered attacks.
