- Resignation fans are convinced that Keanu Reeves will appear in season 2 episode 1
- The matrix, John Wickand Sonic 3 star appears to be voicing an animated character in the show
- Apple is not commenting on whether Reeves has an uncredited role in its hit TV Original
Resignation Season 2 has finally arrived, and while there’s plenty to discuss after its Apple TV Plus debut, fans have one big question since Episode 1’s release: is Keanu Reeves making a cameo?
Yes, you read that right. Resignation fans, myself included, are convinced that Reeves makes an uncredited appearance in Season 2 Episode 1, aka ‘Hello, Ms. Cobel’. He doesn’t appear in the flesh, nor does his name appear in the credits of the highly rated Apple show, so it’s hard to tell if The matrix and John Wick actor is actually part of the procedure.
So where and how does Reeves appear apparently? Full spoilers immediately follow before Resignation‘s season 2 premiere, so turn back now if you haven’t seen it yet.
If you’ve seen ‘Hello, Mrs. Cobel,’ you’ll have heard a very familiar voice about halfway through. Resignation‘s latest episode. Indeed, it seems that Reeves’ distinctly soothing voice can be heard when the Macrodata Refinement (MDR) team sits down to watch the animated ‘Lumon is Listening’ video prepared for them by Lumon Industries.
During this felt-puppet-animated broadcast, an anthropomorphic version of Lumon’s building discusses the changes the sinister biotech mega-corporation has made as part of ‘Severance Reform’. It’s the implementation of a new program that apparently puts the well-being of Lumon’s laid-off employees above all else, for those wondering. It’s at this point in one of the best Apple TV Plus shows’ newest episodes that Reeves allegedly appears. He actually seems to be the voice of the animated Lumon building, and like I said, many of us would recognize his voice anywhere.
So is it really Reeves? Right now I can’t confirm if it is. Many of my fellow viewers think that is the case, although with several comments in different Season 2 premiere threads on the r/tv, r/severance, and r/appletvplus Reddit pages all say the same thing—ie. that it has to be Reeves because, well, nobody else sounds like him.
There is some actual evidence that it may be Reeves. Earlier today (Jan. 17), Collider published an article that included quotes from creator Dan Erickson that appear to confirm that Reeves was asked to voice the Lumon Building in Season 2’s first episode.
Here’s what Erickson said when Collider asked if Reeves is playing the aforementioned character: “All I can say is that we talked about a few different people for that role. We’ve always wanted it to be someone that people have certain associations with, but it also had to be a very warm presence. The Lumon building is very kind in the context of this video, and there’s a kindness to that particular voice and a heart to that particular voice.”
Of course, the fact that Erickson doesn’t deny it means it’s like being Reeves. But Erickson does not actually affirm that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Toy Story 4 voice acting is part of the thing, so the title of that article is somewhat misleading.
Anyway, I’ve contacted Apple to ask if they can confirm or deny whether Reeves has a small role in Resignation‘s newest chapter. I will also update this article if I hear back. In the meantime, you can read my Resignation season 2 review (if you haven’t already) before streaming its first episode. If you’ve seen it, see if you agree with these seven major theories I came up with after Resignation Season 2’s premiere.
