KARACHI:
Sindh Senior Minister and Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon strongly condemned the hateful and linguistically biased speeches delivered at a recent ceremony at the Governor’s House, describing the choice of words and ideas as deeply regrettable.
Speaking in the Sindh Assembly, Memon called Sindh the land of Sufis, peace and tolerance and recalled Karachi’s painful history of hatred, prejudice and linguistic tensions. He warned that similar remarks have caused serious and lasting damage to the city’s social fabric in the past.
The Sindh minister also criticized inappropriate references to state institutions during the event held a few days ago, saying such discussions are not fit for a constitutional platform and undermine civic harmony.
Expressing concern over elected officials using such platforms to deliver biased messages, Memon noted that the incident, especially involving MQM members addressing each other, threatens Karachi’s culture of peace and brotherhood.
