Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has left for a two-day official visit to Azerbaijan on Friday.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the premier has been invited by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, to participate in events marking the fifth anniversary of the Victory Day celebrations in Baku, commemorating Azerbaijan’s success in liberating its territories from Armenian control.
Shehbaz is accompanied by Minister for Information and Radio, Attaullah Tarar.
According to the ministry’s announcement, the leaders will review bilateral relations between their countries, identify and discuss opportunities for deeper cooperation in sectors including trade and investment, energy, defense, education and regional relations.
The statement stated that “Pakistan enjoys long-standing brotherly relations with Azerbaijan, with the two countries maintaining cooperation in regional and international fora, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and the United Nations.”

The prime minister’s visit will “reaffirm Pakistan’s steadfast support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the FO statement said, adding that the visit is to “further promote the strategic partnership between the two brotherly countries.”
The prime minister’s visit to Baku comes as deliberations continue on the proposed 27th constitutional amendment that the federal government plans to introduce.
Last month, Shehbaz visited Saudi Arabia at the invitation of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Muhammad Bin Salman, and also paid an official visit to Malaysia at the invitation of his Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim.
