Dubai:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday called on governments around the world to improve climate financing, technology division and multilateral support for new economies such as Pakistan to achieve sustainable economic growth.
When talking about the World Government Summit (WGS), he emphasized that transition to a green economy was a shared global responsibility. He confirmed Pakistan’s obligation to mobilize domestic resources and implement political reforms to support this shift.
The Prime Minister invited private investors to explore Pakistan’s untapped potential in green energy and infrastructure and emphasized that international partnerships and financial support were crucial to achieving these goals.
“Pakistan’s energy transition alone requires a $ 100 billion investment,” Shehbaz said, approaching global leaders at the summit. Despite significant challenges, he noted that stabilizing the economy had been an important achievement for his government in the past year.
He also highlighted positive economic indicators and the government’s 5ES-frame exports, e-Pakistan, the environment, energy and infrastructure and justice and empowerment-so-as-Uraan Pakistan ‘initiative.
“At the heart of this agenda is energy security and sustainability, not only as a financial necessity, but as a national priority,” he said. Pakistan aims to produce 60% of its energy from pure sources in 2030 and the transition 30% of all vehicles to electric mobility.
He informed the audience that the government quickly scaled up sun, wind and core energy production. “Pakistan’s southern region has 50,000 MW unused wind energy potential, while the northern Hydro projects can add 30,000 MW of pure energy capacity,” he said.
He said Pakistan, with 70% of its population, includes dynamic and technically-capable youth under 30, offered one of the most dynamic investment landscapes in Asia. “Pakistan’s strategic location bridges South and Central Asia, and its new middle class represents promising economic opportunities.”
Prime Minister Shehbaz told the summit that the government simplifies business rules and improved legal protection and streamlining approval mechanism to make Pakistan a leading destination for global capitals.
To drive investments in key sectors in the economy, the prime minister said, the special investment council (SIFC) was established with a focus on renewable energy and elastic infrastructure, technology and digital economy, minerals and industrial development, agriculture and food safety.
“Pakistan embraces environmentally friendly agricultural innovation under the umbrella in the adjustment policy in 2023 to improve productivity and ensure food security and strengthen our rural economy,” he said. The government also incentivesed Agri innovation by implementing solar-powered systems, he added.
“Pakistan stands at the threshold of the new era that prioritized infrastructure progress, economic diversification and human development. The future is not something we passively inherited; rather it is something we were actively shaping,” he said.
He appreciated the leadership of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to host the summit in Dubai. “Dubai is a city where the future meets with the present. Let this summit, a dawn of global peace, sustainable and prosperous future for everyone,” he said.
When he talked about the situation in Palestine, the Prime Minister said Pakistan believed that durable and just peace was only possible through a two-state solution in accordance with the relevant UN decisions to establish independent state of Palestine.
Later, Shehbaz visited the Edge of Government ‘exhibition, which highlighted global examples of improved governance and initiatives. In the apartment, the prime minister met with the experts and provided modern solutions to the challenges in different sectors.
On the sidelines of WGS, Prime Minister Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, President of Sri Lanka Anura Kumara Dissanayake and others, met.
During the meeting with the Dubai shower, Shehbaz Sheikh Al Maktoum thanked the invitation to WGS. He invited Emirati companies to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan. Sheikh Mohammed repeated Dubai’s obligation to strengthen economic and cultural ties with Pakistan.
The Prime Minister thanked the UAE leadership for their steadfast support and unique care expanded to the Pakistani society in the UAE. Sheikh al Maktoum greatly appreciated the contributions of Pakistan Diaspora and their dedication to UA’s development.
Shehbaz also held conversations with UAE President Al Nahyan on issues of bilateral interest, including trade and financial cooperation and recent development in the Middle East. They emphasized the need for intensified international efforts for extensive and lasting peace in Palestine.
The meeting, held in Qasr Al Shati in Abu Dhabi, was attended by the planer Syed Asim Munir.
The meeting provided an opportunity to tackle WGS’s importance to identifying global trends in governance and presenting action strategies to improve government emergency preparedness by navigating global transformations.
The Prime Minister also held discussions on bilateral affairs with DP World Group chairman Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem. He praised the recent successful visit of the DP World delegation to Pakistan, which promoted meaningful investment cooperation between the two pages.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s ongoing support and confirmed the DP world’s obligation to timely project ending and explored new opportunities for collaboration. He announced plans for an exhibition hall in UAE to promote Pakistani products.
Dubai, February 11 (App): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif Tuesday held a bilateral meeting with Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait on the sidelines of the World Government Summit (WGS) 2025.
Shehbaz and Al-Sabah repeated during a separate meeting in Dubai their commitment to transform the existing connections into mutually advantageously strong financial partnership. They underlined the need for full implementation of the ceasefire in Gaza.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President of Sri Lanka Dissanayake discussed regional and multilateral affairs, including reconstruction of the South Asian Association for Regional Countries (SAARC). They agreed to increase the exchanges at a high level of improved cooperation.
Later in the day, Shehbaz returned to the country after completing his two-day visit to UAE. He was accompanied by federal ministers Ishaq Dar, Khawaja Asif, Awais Leghari, Muhammad Aurangzeb and Attaullah Tarar and special assistant Tariq Fatemi.
