Islamabad:
The defamation case filed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif against Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI)-Founder Imran Khan has now reached the Supreme Court. In the case, Khan has submitted a petition that challenges the court’s jurisdiction that heard the case.
In the placement, the PTI founder has requested the point court suspend the procedure in the defamation case until a decision is made on his appeal. He argues that only a district and session court under the law has the authority to hear such defamation issues.

The petition also challenges jurisdiction for the additional sessions whose decision was previously maintained by Lahore High Court. KHAN’s legal team has asked the Supreme Court to cancel the orders issued by both the extra sessions, judge and Lahore High Court.
In addition, the petition recommends that the point of point will stop any additional procedure in the case until the appeal is settled.
2017 defamation suit
In 2017, Prime Minister Shehbaz brought a defamation suit against the then -building leader Imran Khan and accused him of making defamatory statements that damaged his reputation and mental well -being.
Sharif’s defamation requirement stems from Khan’s claims that Sharif offered him RS10 billion through a mutual friend in exchange for withdrawing from the Panama Papers case, which was then pending to the Supreme Court.
According to the case, these “baseless and malicious” statements were widely circulated by the media that damaged Sharif’s public image and causes “extreme mental torture, pain and anxiety.”

Sharif’s legal team has asked the court to send out a decree on the recovery of RS10 billion in compensation for the defamation and the damage caused by the statements. The Prime Minister claims that the accusations were false and led to significant reputation.
In response, Khan filed a response in 2021 and claimed that the information had been transferred to him by a friend who had allegedly been contacted by a member of the Sharif family with an offer to stop pursuing the Panama case.
Khan said he revealed the incident in general interest and argued that his statement does not specifically attribute any part of the claim to Sharif.
