The new Commonwealth Secretary Secretary has expressed his true feelings after the first audience with King Charles, head of Commonwealth.
The palace shared a photo of King Charles with Shirley Botchwey after the audience with the monarch at X, former Twitter grip and said, “The King, as head of Commonwealth, received Hon. Shirley Botchwey by her appointment as the new Commonwealth Secretary General at Windsor Castle.”
In a comment on that, Shirley Botchwey said: “Today I had the honor of my first audience with His Majesty King Charles III, head of Commonwealth.
“We shared our vision and ambitions of the continued success of the Commonwealth.”
She added, “I look forward to working with His Majesty to strengthen the bonds in our family of nations.”

Shirley Botchwey was appointed by the Commonwealth government at their two -year meeting in APIA, Samoa in 2024.
She took over the office on April 1, 2025 and has promised to promote the values of the Commonwealth Charter at a time of growing global tensions and changing alliances.
