KARACHI:

The PPP’s Sindh government has requested the federal government to transfer armored vehicles, which has been rejected by the KP provincial administration.

The Sindh Home Ministry on Thursday requested the Home Ministry to allocate the vehicles which were rejected by the KP.

“In view of the critical security environment in Sindh, especially with regard to the protection of Chinese nationals as well as the security of foreigners, VVIPs and dignitaries visiting the province, there is an urgent need for bulletproof vehicles.

“It is therefore requested that these bulletproof vehicles may be kindly allotted to the Government of Sindh for deployment under the Home Ministry.

“The vehicles will be used exclusively for aforesaid official security duties and will be maintained and operated under strict departmental control,” said the letter from Sindh Additional Chief Secretary Muhammad Iqbal Memon.

On Monday, KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi blamed the federal government’s “flawed policies” for the resurgence of terrorism seen in the province.

He had claimed that the federal government neither gave KP funds allocated during the country’s ongoing war on terrorism, nor “other constitutional rights”.

He had also alleged that the bulletproof cars provided by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi were “defective and old” and requested the Center to recall them.

Balochistan CM Sarfraz Bugti had subsequently waded in and said that like KP, his province was also affected by terrorism.

“It is an appeal to the Home Minister that if the KP government refuses to take the bulletproof vehicles, they should be transferred to the Balochistan government so that terrorism can be effectively countered,” he said in a post on X.

In a unique turn of events thereafter, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi allocated the bulletproof vehicles meant for KP to Balochistan.
