Sindh announces six Oxford University -Scholarships to Students

London: The Sindh government, in collaboration with the Oxford Pakistan program (OPP), announced the creation of two prestigious scholarships in the name Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.

The scholarships will be part of Oppp’s annual Master’s Scholarship and will support unusually talented students from Sindh to pursue graduate studies at the University of Oxford, declared a press release issued on Friday.

The announcement of these scholarships was made during an official visit to Oxford University by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) President Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

They hosted the lunch of the principal of Lady Margaret Hall (Alma Mater of Benazir Bhutto), Professor Stephen Blyth, and was assessed by the vision and initiatives from OPP, as well as Lady Margaret Hall’s basic support for OPP.

Lunch was also attended by Mrs. Sanam Bhutto, sister of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto; Author, Historian and LMH -Alumna, Victoria Schofield; And senior delegates from the governments of Sindh and Balochistan.

OPP is led by a team of Oxford academics and alumni including Professor Adeel Malik of the University of Oxford, Dr. Talha J Pirzada, Associate Professor of Materials Science, Haroon Zaman, a company lawyer in London and Oxford Alumna, Minahil Saqib.

OPP supports Pakistani origin students and academics through scholarships, difficulty funds, an annual IQBAL lecture and a master’s program program.

Both Benazir Bhutto and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto studied at the University of Oxford. These scholarships honor their inheritance and aim to strengthen Sindh’s youth by giving them access to world -class education and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to their community and beyond.

This fund will provide annual financial support to up to six excellent students from Sindh every year to pursue a master’s degree in Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, including up to three scholarships for female candidates under Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Scholarship and up to three scholarships during Shaheed Zulficar Ali Bhutto scholarship.

In a speech at the event, Bilawal said: “OPP opens doors and creates opportunities for Pakistanis, especially talented students with underprivileged backgrounds. I would like to appreciate both governments in Sindh and Balochistan, both of whom have started scholarship programs with OPP for OPP students from their Province.
