The Sindh government has started the distribution of Solar Home Systems (SHS) to 200,000 households with low income throughout the province as part of Sindh Solar Energy Project (SSP).

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah published the message at an event held near KPT Interchange, DHA Phase-I, where he also confirmed that PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zze-Ze had ordered the purchase of another 300,000 sun units for distribution among families with low income.

“Through this initiative, we provide solar energy solutions to low-income households so that they can improve their quality of life, access better education for their children and improve their business,” Shah said.

Solar Home Systems will be distributed with significant subsidies, making them more affordable for families in need. Each system includes a sturdy solar panel, an 80W solar panel, a smart power control device, a long-term battery and essential accessories such as LED bulbs, mobile charging facilities and a Piedestal fan.

Under his address, CM also highlighted the challenges faced by the Sindh government in the sector for renewable energy, especially in the development of THAR Coal Project.

Despite the setback from the federal government’s policy and economic restrictions, the provincial government has been obliged to expand renewable energy sources.

Shah noted that the Sindh government in 2014 took a bold step at solar carising 600 schools in Nagarparkar and launched two solar energy schemes in SUKKUR. However, the federal government’s rejection of approving additional power production projects prevented further progress.

“We were facing considerable resistance as we tried to introduce solar energy into the country. Despite the challenges, we continued with our efforts to ensure that Sindh meets his energy needs,” he said.

CM also discussed the success of THAR COAL PROJECT, which has begun to generate the cheapest electricity in Pakistan. He credited former President Asif Ali Zardari for his efforts to ensure federal cooperation and to ensure the completion of the project.

“We are proud that Thar Coal is now playing a key role in delivering affordable energy to Sindh and the wider country,” he added.

The Sindh government also cooperates with the federal government to develop a railway line dedicated to transporting Thar -charcoal, which further increases the province’s energy autonomy.

In addition, the SINDH government has collaborated with Chinese companies to develop the Wind Solhy Hybriden Energy Projects focusing on 350 MW and 75 MW schemes, which were completed during Asif Ali Zardari’s recent visit to China.

CM confirmed the government’s obligation to supply 300 free electricity units per Month to low -income families, adapting PPP’s manifesto and sustainable development goals (SDGs).

He expressed hope that the goal of distributing 200,000 SHS sets by July 2025 would be met with a goal of 400 sets per year. District per Week.

Energy Minister Nasser Shah emphasized that the SHS sets are distributed right across all 30 districts in Sindh. The distribution is facilitated using established NGOs such as hands, SRSO and SEFCO, which ensures effective delivery of sets.

He also noted that the recipients are carefully selected using data from Benazir Income Support Program (Bisp), ensuring that the most needy families are prioritized.

CM concluded by praising the work of the Sindh Energy Department and its team stating that the province is determined to lead the way in the transition to pure energy, with the support of the World Bank and other international development partners.

“Sindh Solar Energy Project is an important step towards a greener, fairer future,” he added.
