Karachi:
Pakistan Peoples Party President Bilawal Bhutto Zardari handed keys to women’s recipients of the “pink scooty scheme”, a government initiative in Sindh that provides free electric scooters to women.
The scheme, launched by SINDH Transport Department, aims to improve women’s mobility and create greater access to transport and employment opportunities throughout the province.
In a speech during the event, Bilawal emphasized that inclusion of women is important for the development of any nation, economy or community. He repeated PPP’s obligation to women’s empowerment and highlighted the steps taken by the government to improve access to public transport for women throughout the province.
“It is a matter of pride that Sindh has already introduced electrical buses in public transport and then launched the dedicated pink bus connection to women,” he said.
“Today we take another big step by distributing electrical scooters at no cost to women, which will not only facilitate their daily commuting, but also provide greater access to employment opportunities,” he added.
Bilawal also announced the upcoming launch of a new initiative – pink taxis – which will provide safe travel and job opportunities for women across Sindh. Bilawal, who cited the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, said, “No nation can rise to the height of the glory unless your women are side by side with you.”
He noted that although some countries impose restrictions on women, the Sindh government is actively working to expand their opportunities. “We will send a strong message to Pakistan and the world – Pakistan Peoples Party stands with the women in this country.”
He also appreciated KFC Pakistan’s role to cooperate in the scheme by supporting bicycle education and licensing for female riders who called on other stakeholders in the private sector to participate in public-private partnership models to mutual benefit.
Bilawal pointed out the transformative results achieved through OPP in Sindh, especially within Tharparkar’s financial boost, the construction of new ways and bridges and improvement of educational and health sectors.
When he talked about agricultural support, Bilawal PPP’s obligation to flooded hit farmers repeated and announced that the government will offer financial support through the Benazir Hari card. Farmers who own up to 25 hectares of land will receive support to buy fertilizer under this scheme.
