The Sindh government has announced scholarships for six deserved students to study at Oxford University, which marks a significant step in Benazir Bhutto Graduate Scholarship.
The announcement came after an appointment morandum (MOU) was signed in London, which officially facilitates these options.
Mou was signed in the presence of Bilawal Bhuttozze-Zze, president of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), which highlighted the importance of education and empowerment during the ceremony.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah revealed that three male and three female students from Sindh would receive these scholarships annually in collaboration with Oxford Pakistan.
“These scholarships have been part of the SINDH government’s long-standing initiative to support students in obtaining higher education abroad,” said Chief Minister Shah.
The scholarships are part of the Bhutto program and are aimed at promoting academic expertise in areas such as science, technology and engineering.
During a visit to Oxford University, Bilawal Bhutto-Zze-Zoni reflected over the legacy of his mother, Benazir Bhutto, who fought for improving Pakistan’s future. He repeated his belief that “democracy is the best revenge” pointed out that his mother, despite significant societal restrictions on women, became Pakistan’s first female prime minister. Bilawal emphasized that Pakistan’s future is tied to constitutional supremacy, an independent judiciary and free journalism.
Bilawal condemned NAB (National Accountability Bureau) as a “draconic law” and repeated PPP’s attitude towards it and highlighted the party’s role in improving the basic health facilities of Sindh. He also expressed concern about the security situation in Balochistan and confirmed Pakistan’s obligation to the security of its nuclear assets.
In addition to the Oxford fellowships, SINDH’s government has also approved 3,157 new scholarships for the study year 2023-2024 with a focus on providing opportunities for talented students through Sindh Education Endowment Fund.
In a statement, chief minister Shah emphasized that these scholarships are part of the provincial government’s efforts to provide opportunities for talented and needy students as part of their educational development.
