The Sindh government has decided to auction off useless vehicles within a month and buy electric vehicles (EVs) as replacements for government employees in Karachi.
An important meeting of the Sindh Cabinet Sub-Committee on Austerity, chaired by senior provincial minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, took place in Karachi.
Provincial Ministers Saeed Ghani, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, Ali Hassan Zardari and various department secretaries attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the committee members gave instructions to regulate the allocation of government vehicles through clear guidelines. Secretaries of various departments presented a 10-year record of government vehicles.
Sharjeel Inam Memon in his speech stated that the auction process should be completed within a month to avoid further wastage of resources and to meet the need for new vehicles.
He emphasized that the purchase of electric cars would benefit the government, save on fuel costs and make the auction process easier.
He further stated that the government is committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in the use of public resources.
He warned that those misusing government vehicles should return them as per government orders.
Senior provincial minister Memon added that work on the auction of junk vehicles is underway and the auction will be conducted in a transparent manner.
All affected officials and departments must comply with new guidelines to avoid legal action.
Saeed Ghani stated that timely auctioning of junk vehicles is essential to reduce unnecessary expenditure. He urged departments with excess vehicles to return them to the government.
Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said that prompt efforts are being made to identify unserviceable vehicles and ensure compliance with government policies.
Their aim is to save public money and ensure that spending matches actual needs.
