Sindh issues winter school timings update

KARACHI: The Department of School Education and Literacy on Sunday extended reduced school hours – after which educational institutions were ordered to begin classes at 9 – across Sindh till February 4 as the ongoing cold wave continues to grip the province.

“Continuing to this department’s even number notification dated 10 January 2026, the timing of all public and private educational institutions under the administrative control of School Education and Literacy Department, Government of Sindh will continue till 4/2/2026,” the notification read.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the education department said the decision was made due to the intensified cold weather across the province.

As per the directives of Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah, the revised timetables have been extended till February 4, the spokesperson added.

The education department had initially extended the revised school hours until January 26 amid a severe cold snap across the province.

Separately, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Saturday that temperatures in Karachi may drop to single digits over the weekend.

The Met Office had said the port city’s weather is likely to remain cold and dry with occasional winds.

Meanwhile, the PMD predicted more rain and snowfall in various parts of the country from Sunday to Tuesday.
