Karachi:
On Friday, the Sindh assembly passed three legislative pieces, including a bill that increases wages and the privileges of its members, the SIND HUGE FOR MIDDLE AND SECONDARY EDUCATION (amendment) Bill 2025 and anti-terrorism Sindh (amendment) Bill 2025.
The bills were moved by Minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ziaul Hassan Lanjar during a session President of Speech Syed Awais Qadir Shah. The house unanimously approved the bill on wages and quotas, which were previously cleared by the provincial cabinet on Thursday.
The new law offsets privileges for MPAs – both from government and opposition – covers hospitality, rent, utilities, daily and transport allowances, accommodation, travel and mileage, telephone and medical facilities as well as office maintenance.
The head of the opposition will now receive the same salary and perks as the Minister of Provincial. Parliamentary committee chairmen have the right to use an official vehicle – with fuel and maintenance – but must return it within three days of leaving the position.
SINDH boards for intermediate and secondary education (amendments) Bill 2025, adopted by majority, allow the appointment of BPS-20 and 21 officers as chairmen of educational board. Lanjar said the move was intended to induce competent officers for better board benefits.
However, MQM-Pakistan’s Sabir Qaimkhani called for the Bill to the relevant Committee for further considerations to protect board autonomy proposal rejected by parliament.
The Assembly also adopted anti -terrorism Sindh (amendment) Bill 2025. Details of the changes were not immediately discussed on the floor.
Speaker Shah announced that a special meeting will be held on August 11 in the old assembly building to mark the minority day, with representatives of the minority society who were invited to attend. A privilege movement of MQM-Pakistan’s Ammar Siddiqui on gas supply issues was rejected for technical reasons.
During the questioning time of the AUQAF department, parliamentary secretary Shazia Sanghar responded to written and additional questions from the members.
