Sindh Provincial Ombudsman has ordered immediate removal of K-ELECTRIC CEO, Moonis Alvi, and imposed a fine of RS2.5 million after finding him guilty of harassment in the workplace.

The order came in response to a complaint filed by Mahreen Aziz Khan, a former consultant and the company’s first female CXO since its corporate structure began in 2009.

In his verdict, Justice (Retd) Shahnawaz Tariq, who preserved the case, said Alvi had committed harassment and caused Khan and her team psychological distress.

“The accused No. 1 Moonis Abdullah Alvi has committed harassment, created hostile environment and caused mental pain in the workplace to complainant Mahreen Aziz Khan and her team,” said the decision and quoted section 2 of the law (H).

The Ombudsman ordered Alvi’s removal from service under section 4 (ii) (d) (d) and instructed him to pay the fine within a month. In case of non -compliance, the verdict allows for the seizure of his moving and motionless assets and the blockage of his national identity card and passport.

Three other individuals – Rizwan Dallal (Chief People Officer), Col (R) Wahid Asghar (Head of Security) and Khalid Rafi (Board member, HR committee) – was also named in the original complaint but was discharged due to lack of evidence.

“In the absence of direct evidence, the allegations against the three co-accused could not be substantiated,” the decision said.

In a statement shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Alvi expressed disappointment with the decision.

“I have always maintained professionalism and integrity in all conditions in the workplace,” he said. “The recent judgment is extremely worrying. I respect the justice system, although the result does not reflect the reality of my experience.”

Alvi added that he is reviewing the decision with legal advisers and intended to appeal.
