Sindh Irrigation Department on Thursday sent a new letter – the second in 48 hours – to Indus River System Authority (IRSA), which called on the immediate closure of the Taunsa Panjnad (TP) channel to prevent water shortages in the province.
The growing controversy over channel operations was intensified after Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah heavily criticized the Punjab government for deriving increased water to TP Link Camal. In response, IRSA maintained that all decisions were made in accordance with the law.
On Tuesday, the Sindh Irrigation Department wrote to Irsa and called to stop in the transfer of water from the Indus River to the Jhelum-Chenab system.
