The Sindh government has announced plans to introduce official pricing caps on branded products sold in Karachi’s supermarkets and Superstores, expressed Express News Friday.
The Directorate -General of the Bureau of Supply and Price collects data on production costs and profit margins to set the pricing structure.
This will help establish fair prices for important goods on the market.
The decision was made after a meeting with the chairman of Zahid Hussain Shar, the Director General of the Bureau of Supply. Senior officials and representatives from major retail chains were present at the meeting.
SHAR explained that retail companies in Karachi will now be obliged to register their warehouses at the Bureau of Supply and keep them up to date.
He emphasized the importance of enforcing the Consumer Protection Act to protect consumers’ rights.
The government now has the authority to regulate the prices of branded goods produced or sold in Karachi. This price mechanism is expected to be rolled out next month.
Data on production costs and profit margins are collected first to ensure transparency and justice in the process.
The goal is to ensure that Karachi residents can access branded goods at reasonable prices while relating to the ongoing inflation pressure.
