French chip designer Sipearl has announced ATHENA1, a processor designed for both government and defense applications as well as cases of the use of aircraft.
The CPU is described as a tailor -made version of RHEA1, the company’s first generation of processor, but with features specifically tailored to sensitive workloads such as cryptography, safe communication, tactical networks and intelligence treatment.
The Athena1 line will be available in configurations offering 16, 32, 48, 64 or 80 arm neo -v1 kernes, with choice depending on the need for benefit and thermal requirements.
Claims Europe’s strategic independence
The manufacture of Chip Die will be handled by TSMC, with packaging originally taking place in Taiwan before moving to Europe in a later phase to encourage a domestic supply chain.
Sipearl says Athena1 is intended to meet “double use” requirements where processors serve both civil and defense purposes.
It includes applications ranging from electronic detection to local data processing on board vehicles.
ATHENA1 is scheduled for commercial release in the second half of 2027, with several technical details advertised closer to launch.

The launch is part of Europe’s growing push for independence in semiconductors and follows European startup EUCYD’s freshly advertised Craftwerk SIP, which claims bandwidth levels far beyond Nvidia’s design.
